Finding a Puppy
Temperament

In any pet temperament must be the foremost consideration

Some aspects of behaviour are learned and some are hereditary, it can sometimes be very difficult to tell which is which. A good breeder will try to maintain a steady temperament so, if the bitch is a little shy, the breeder will have chosen a stud dog who is more outgoing, if the bitch is very active, a calmer dog should be used as a sire for the litter. A bitch who is nervous of or aggressive towards people should not be bred from under any circumstance where puppies will be homed as pets.

A companion dog is a pleasure to share a life with

Where a pet and companion is concerned temperament should be the number one consideration of any breeder. Any breeder should be keen for you to meet their bitch and the bitch should be very happy to meet to you. A well bred, raised and socialised dog or bitch will be friendly, outgoing and happy to welcome you to the home.

An excellent temperament is 100% genetic

Always remember that a bitch with young puppies may be tired from caring for her brood, anxious for their safety and a little stressed, never overwhelm her or rush to handle her and her pups. Be calm, keep children well under control and quiet and give the bitch time to relax and settle, talk quietly and be very gentle, a happy and well adjusted bitch will soon relax and be proud to show off her babies.
