Books about Puppy and Dog Training and Behaviour |
||||
We have assembled a selection of dog books and puppy books
covering subjects such as bringing up your puppy, training your dog,
canine behaviour in general, dealing with dog aggression, understanding
your dog etc. |
||||
Understanding
& Training Puppies Typically common sense and down to earth our only critisism would be that whilst everything Mrs Sykes says applies 100% to the Border Collie or Golden Retriever it may be a little wide of the mark for less biddable breeds, none-the-less this book deserves pride of place. Refreshing to find the black/white /grey area analogy which "trendy" training methods so often fails to grasp. |

The
Perfect Puppy
A very useful book and one of the ones we always recommend to propective puppy owners, lots of common sense and basically very sound. Like so many books written by those involved in rescue it focusses on problem solving rather than prevention and is a little over the top in places, for example suggesting that puppies should be in their new homes by 6 weeks, no, no, no! |

Understanding
& Handling Dog Aggression
Cunningly titled to be sure of good sales this is not really about aggression but about relationships (perhaps the same thing). None-the-less the best dog book we have read for many years and a must for every dog and puppy owner. It is reassuring to know that we are not the only ones who are uncomfortable with so called "motivational training".. |
