Our Golden Retriever Breeding

We are not commercial breeders, we breed our Golden Retrievers as a hobby and as a pleasure, we breed because we enjoy our golden retrievers and the challenge of seeking to establish the very best traits of character and conformation from generation to generation. We aim for excellent temperament in healthy and attractive puppies who typify the finest characteristics of the Golden Retriever. We don't chase trends or breed to please the current vogue "in the ring", we breed reliable, stable, beautiful Golden Retrievers, sound in mind and body, stout of heart, gentle of nature and loving of disposition. In essence we strive to continue to produce the true old fashioned Golden Retriever that still exists in spite of the changing trends and fancies that have undermined the breed in recent years.

Golden Retriever Hip Score X-ray

We take the health of our Golden Retriever dogs and puppies very seriously indeed.

When considering a puppy from a breed such as the Golden Retriever which is susceptible to hip dysplasia, prospective owners should seek a puppy from parents each of whose total hips scores are below the average total hip score for the breed. Such selection does not eliminate the possibility of hip dysplasia in a golden retriever dog or puppy but may significantly reduce the chances of hip dysplasia occurring. The breed average for Golden Retrievers is 19, in total, for both hips i.e., left hip score + right hip score = 19.
We do not breed from dogs and bitches whose hip scores are above the breed average (i.e.19).

All our Golden Retriever Puppies are Litter Screened under the ISDS/BVA/KC eye testing scheme before 8 weeks of age.

During pregnancy our Golden Retriever bitches are wormed with Panacur from the 39th day of gestation until after the puppies have been wormed for the first time at 2-3 weeks of age.

Golden Retriever - worming

Our golden retriever puppies are wormed at 2, 4 and 6 weeks of age. This programme is formulated to ensure that puppies are born and remain free of worm infestation throughout their infant lives. We provide a Worming Certificate detailing each puppy's worming history and recommend an ongoing worming programme to enable new puppy owners to keep their new pets worm free for life.

Our Golden Retriever Puppies are registered with The Kennel Club (of Great Britain) at which time their papers are endorsed "Progeny not eligible for registration" and "not eligible for issue of an export pedigree".

All our Golden Retriever puppies are raised in the home with their mother in a safe, clean and stimulating environment. Our Golden Retriever Puppies are accustomed to household sights and sounds, socialised, handled and very well cuddled for the best start in life.

The information on this page is accurate and true to the best of our knowledge and reflects current thinking on health matters, however we are golden retriever breeders and as such not qualified to offer advice on health issues. The appropriate person to advise you on health issues affecting golden retrievers is your veterinary surgeon. We require all prospective owners to consult a veterinary surgeon regarding potential health issues in the golden retriever before considering ownership of any puppy we breed.

Golden Retrievers are susceptible to a number of eye diseases and abnormalities some of which may affect sight and some of which may be inherited. It is never possible to guarantee that Golden Retriever puppies will not suffer from eye problems because although their parents may have been regularly tested some problems only appear later in life (late onset) and may not be apparent until a dog or bitch has produced many offspring. Some eye conditions are inherited recessively which means that although both parents may test clear of a particular condition those same parents may carry the potential to produce eye problems in their progeny. Those bitches and dogs from whom we breed have been eye tested clear of all conditions currently thought to produce inherited eye problems in the Golden Retriever.
